Mid-level features, Hobbiest price. I bought this meter under the impression that it was an industrial meter - and I wasn't disappointed, much. The meter is a sturdy, good looking meter with dual-display in several modes, mainly the AC Voltage and Current modes use it for displaying the frequency of the AC signal. The features measure up to a lot of other industrial meters with big, well known names, and yet there is more here than many of them - like dual temperature probes, Non-contact voltage sense, and frequency/duty measurement. And one of the best features is the LCD Backlight - it is very bright and uniform throughout the display, and brighter than sever meters costing 4 to 5 times as much. When I checked the True RMS ability of this meter against one or two others I found this one more 'accurate'. A sine signal of 10Vpk properly measured 7.07Vrms. Several other meters were off by several 100mV. The dial turns easily when stood on the bale, and the meter is pretty sturdy standing up. The case also seems to be pretty sturdy, but the unit over all is quite light weight. I wonder if it would withstand a three story fall onto concrete? #I've seen other meters tested this way!# Also the pcb and components appear to be decent, but the plugs are split, not machined. On the down side the fuses aren't accessible without removing the entire rear cover, and the screws aren't machine screws into metal inserts - its just self-tapping into plastic. If you remove the back too frequently #as for calibration?# these could become easily stripped. On my wish list for this meter to be AAA+ would be the following: A# Use three high intensity LEDs instead of one, add a visual indication of NCV detection such as illuminating the flashlight, LCD backlight, or a red light indicator. B# Design the case to use closing covers over the terminals so that the wrong leads can't be used. #I know this meter has an audible and visual indication for leads in mA terminal when the setting is voltage, but this didn't work when plugged into the Volt terminal and setting set to uA, mA, or A.# C# Allow users to turn the 'Beep' on or off. #The beep is constant when turning the dial or pushing buttons.# D# Make the battery compartment lid also an access to the fuses so you don't have to remove the whole back cover #and void a calibration!# E) Use machine screws with metal inserts, instead of the self-tapping ones, to secure the back and battery compartment covers. F) Add a feature to compare two Voltage, Current, Frequency, or other measurements. This would make better use of the dual display #not that it's bad as it stands#. I.E. Capture a measurement on the dual-display, then make another on the main display. G) See if you can't increase the counts up to 9999, or go to a 20000 count, High Resolution display. Even with a pretty extensive wish list, I think I really like this meter. I am a little disappointed with some of the features #I'd like to be able to go to 0.000nF, not just 00.00nF!# but the feature set and cost keep reminding me that I got all this for such a great price. I'd highly recommend this meter and have been showing it off to co-workers since I got it. Now, what other equipment do I need to buy... June 6, 2013

the amproble has excellent features like large display for easy viewing even is low light, can be dropped or slammed in doors and still dependablej I have worked for a company in the maintance deparment for many years and i have used amprobe and have used many other digital meters and i have found that amprobe have stood up through all the toughest jobs and the most reliable of all the meters i have used. the display is very clear and readable even in the lowest light the dial is easy to turn even with gloves on, tough enough to with stand being dropped from a second level (20') I would be proud to recommend amprobe to anybody looking for a good all around all porpose meter March 29, 2012
Durable and easy to use I wire electrical panels, so the bulk of my use is for checking continuity, but when I have used it for other purposes, it functions quite well, and I especially like the digital display screen. Obviously, in a shop environment, the meter occasionally gets dropped, but it has been extremely durable, absorbing all kinds of bumps and bruises. March 29, 2012

best meter going I am an industrial electrician and rough on my tools, The Am-5550 has got to be one of the most rugged meters I have ever owned. It has survived many drops and slams. the controls on the front are very quick and easy to use and the display is very easy to read in dim lighting. I would recommend this meter to anyone in the field. March 27, 2012
